Community Safety Initiative (CSI) is a national Civil Society Organization, operating in Liberia since 2005.
We are all different. The people of Liberia and some of our stakeholders come from a wide range of backgrounds including gender, age, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, religious beliefs, family responsibilities, socio-economic background, and life and work experience. These are some of the things that make Liberia such a great place to live and work in. Through applying the Guidelines on culture and gender inclusion CSI-INC is committed to reflecting the diverse and unique composition of the Liberian community and our stakeholders in our own workforce. Gender and culture inclusion programming is all about recognising, celebrating and utilizing these differences for the benefit of CSI-INC, our clients and our workforce hence the organisation makes the following commitment.
- CSI will confront and challenge gender discrimination, stereotyping and unequal power relations between men and women, and boys and girls hence CSI is committed to act against all forms of gender – based injustice wherever it exists.
- CSI will advocate and promote gender equality as a human and child right. The organization’s commitment to gender equality is an inseparable part of our commitment to child rights.
- CSI will oppose all forms of gender based violence and all practices that undermine that dignity of children and their right to protection from harm hence the organization will work to end violence and protect children from harm in all situations, including in emergencies and disasters.
- CSI will not tolerate practices that result in gender based discrimination, prejudice or inequality, age, religion, ethnicity, economic status, caste, citizenship, sexual identity or orientation, marital status, physical or mental disability, HIV status, or urban/rural residence.
- CSI implement long term strategies of social change to address the causes of gender based exclusion and discrimination. Since girls who have disabilities, who grow up in very poor families, or are disadvantaged or excluded for any other reason are especially likely to experience discrimination, violence, exploitation or neglect, the organization will pay special attention to working with these girls.
- CSI will ensure that a gender analysis and action is done to promote gender equality at all program levels. During the analyses, CSI will try to understand how inequality and discrimination affect the lives of girls and boys and shall develop programs to overcome gender gaps.
- Girls are less likes to be enrolled in school, have less access to medical care, are more likely to be deprived of food. They experience more gender based violence and have fewer opportunities to develop their professional skills and their potential to succeed in business hence CSI will promote the empowerments of the girls and women to ensure that all children have an equal opportunity to realize their rights.
- CSI’s will work with men and boys in tackling gender discrimination and promoting gender equality.
- CSI will promote the equitable and meaningful participation of girls and boys in the decision-making processes that affects their lives.
- CSI will create an enabling environment for gender equality to thrive in our internal organizational culture. The organization’s work environment will be inclusive, free of discrimination and prejudice. Women and men working for CSI will share power and responsibility equally based on their skills and capacity. CSI will take active steps to recruit, train and promote more women into leadership positions. All the CSI staff members will be gender sensitive and will know how to address overt and subtle forms of inequality in our offices. Principles
Workplace diversity is about developing strategies that recognise and accommodate differences in background, perspectives and family responsibilities of our workforce.
The Guidelines on culture and gender inclusion retains the principles of equal employment opportunity (EEO). EEO addresses continued disadvantages experienced by particular groups of people in the workplace, including women, Indigenous Liberians, people with disabilities and those who suffer disadvantage on the basis of gender and culture.
Gender inclusion guidelines are incorporated into all aspects of human resource management, such as workforce planning, recruitment and selection, performance management, learning and development, leadership development, workplace health and safety and workplace relations.
