
Partnership for Advancing Community Based Services-PACS
Community Safety Initiative (CSI) is a sub-guarantee and a civil society organization (CSO) under the United State Agency for International Development (USAID) funded project, title “Partnership for Advancing Community-based Services (PACS) since October 2016 to September 2020”.
The project is being implemented by its consortium partners through International Rescue Committee (IRC) to build on community-based health services in selected counties (Bong, Lofa, and Nimba) that intended to increase access to community-based services and strengthen the health system. As CSI, be serving as a service delivery partner to support the IRC and its consortium partners, contributing to the improvement of primary health care through house hold access to integrated community-based health services; improving health ‘seeking behavior and strengthen the capacities of community’s structures for health promotion.
The project gear toward hard-to-reach community to fostering community participation to increased demand for health services, and claim ownership and positive behavior change. The project had benefited more than 5,790 community beneficiaries across 839 communities in Lofa County through social mobilization and household treatment of children below 5 years through integrated community cases management system (iCCM).
With a supportive action in collaboration with other implementing partners, the project has resulted to the remarkable achievements that not limited to:
- 97 CHC activated and 97 actives with 437 of 566 members currently visible in their respective communities (F: 108; M: 329).
- Facilitated the recruitment of 54 CHA-Community Health Committees in Kolahun and Vahun Districts.
- Strengthen 24 HFDC (Health facility development committee) with 375 of 390 (F: 127; M: 248) members currently active in two districts, Kolahun and Vahun. which intended to create linkage between the health facility and the communities through
- Distribution of non in cash materials such as 97 Solar panel lamps, 105 ledgers and 104 parks of pen to 8 health facilities and in the 97 catchment communities with the HFDCs and CHCs for meeting and recoding purposes including 1,058 T- Shirts and 400 face caps among 658 people twice among the community implementing actors including,
- Reactivation and strengthen of Community Health Committee (CHCs) across wider community in the four-districts including Voinjama, Kolahun, Foya and Vahun districts this led to the CHCs action in advocacy for increase quality health services through awareness and advocacy campaigns.
- Increased community supports in the development, planning and implementation of health-related projects through self-initiative actions generated from dialogues, mentorships, and mobilization of local resources through the implementation of community health risk reduction plans (CHRRP). The project includes; construction and repairing of hand pumps, establishment of sustainable farms, maintenance of hygienic practices at facilities and for the revitalization of the communities.
