CSI in Partnership with Mercy Corps implemented the Ebola Community Action Platform (E-CAP 1). The project title: “Supporting Communities Resilience in the Fight Against Ebola in Rural Liberia”. The project was implemented in 65 communities in 4 Health districts (Voinjama/Quardu, Kolahun, Foya and Vahun) in Lofa County with funding from USAID.

Program has four main Objectives:

  • Increased understanding of community members in 65 communities 4 districts in Lofa counties, on EVD and its transmission, treatment and prevention to reduce the spread of the outbreak.
  • Empowered community members (180), and community structures, to play a vital and coordinated role in the fight against EVD and future disaster risk reduction (DRR) (540 youth, women, influential, traditional and religious leaders) through social mobilization, community engagement and community coordination.
  • Improved psychosocial health of 360 persons affected by EVD in 65 communities across 4 districts in Lofa counties, including survivors and orphans, to support them to deal with trauma.
  • Increased capacity of County Health Teams to monitor, evaluate, and share learning with relevant stakeholders and actors in the fight against EVD, so as to contribute to revisions of the Ebola response strategy of the Ministry of Health.

The project goal:

Transmission of the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) is significantly reduced or eliminated nationally supported by a community-led social mobilization campaign. Program has 27 staffers, 24 full time staff and 316 gCHVs, TTMs, CHVs referred to under the project as Communicators who were charge with day to-day, house to house and doors to doors visitation; the 19 Social Mobilizers were responsible to provide training for the communicators, monitor, collect data on behavior changes and communication using Smart phones with ODK software and sent it to the dashboard setup by Mercy Corps, The four Field Monitors conducted monitoring and supervision for the Social Mobilizers and in collaboration with Mobilizers carryout the public outreach campaign and the conduction of the disaster risk reduction (DRR) community Leadership forum in the 65 communities in 4 districts in Lofa.

Leaders’ Forum

Partner in Ebola Virus Response Project entitle “Ebola Response community Leaders’ Forum”.

The Community Safety Initiative (CSI) with funding support from IREX/YMCA and in collaboration with Lofa County health Team (LCHT) conducted Ebola Response community Leaders’ Forum in Kolahun and the Quardu Gboni districts Lofa County. The objective of the forum was to provide a platform for community leaders to share their experiences, expectation and fear about the Ebola Virus Disease outbreak in order to mitigate the risk with Ebola Virus diseases transmission and prevention and strategize methods to promote productive information sharing and dialogue among citizens and also ensure compliance of citizens to health regulations and renew trust for government. The theme of the forum was “Empowering Communities to Combat Ebola and Sustain Peace in Liberia“ with funding support from USAID.

Partner in Ebola Virus Disease EVD Response; the project of the title “Response to break the transmission of Ebola hemorrhagic Fever (EHF)”, the Plan International Liberia one month funded project on community social mobilization in 20 targeted communities in the Kolahun District. The activities implemented in September 2014, was aiming at increasing critical understanding of Ebola transmission and prevention as well to contain the spread of the disease.
