The Relevance of Sex Education and Health in Liberia

the-relevance-of-sex-education-and-health-in-liberia

Sex education is an important part of a child’s development, especially for girls & young women, as it can help them understand the physical, psychological, and social aspects of sexuality. Learning sex education can help young people make informed decisions about their sexual health and well-being, giving them the knowledge and resources to make responsible choices.

One of the primary goals of sex education is to equip young people with the skills and knowledge to make responsible decisions about sex and relationships. This includes teaching them about contraception, HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections, healthy relationships, gender roles, and body image. By teaching them about these topics, they can develop healthy relationships, respect their own and others’ bodies, and understand the importance of safe sex.

Let us promote community safety in Liberia today. In addition to teaching young people about the physical and emotional aspects of sex, sex education also equips them with the communication skills they need to talk openly and honestly about sex and relationships. This includes teaching them how to set boundaries, have safe conversations, and make informed choices about relationships, which can ultimately help in creating a safe and healthy civil society.

Sex education is highly relevant in Liberia, as religious leaders, medical doctors, marketers, bankers, and farmers from across the country have called on the government to include it in the National Curriculum. They believe that the proposed Family Life course should educate students about the risks associated with early pregnancy, which in most instances leads to death, and that parents should be more involved in educating their children about these issues.
